Teen killed, three hurt in golf cart accident
A 15-year-old boy was killed and three other teens injured in a golf cart crash Wednesday evening in Williamson County.
The accident happened just after 6 p.m. on Lake Valley Drive in the Legend's Ridge subdivision of Franklin.
The neighborhood is located on the corner of Hillsboro Road and South Berry's Chapel Road.
Police said the four teens were traveling down a hill in the golf cart when the vehicle's right tire blew, causing the driver to lose control.
The golf cart slammed into a brick encased mailbox before overturning and ejecting three of the teens.
The driver of the golf cart, 15-year-old Ryan Tropauer, was killed.
Two other 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries.
Tropauer was a freshman at Franklin High School.
Ninth grade Principal Shane Pantall called him an excellent student who loved music, skateboarding and playing the guitar.
To allow students time to grieve, the school cancelled end of course exams on Thursday and Friday.
Counselors were also on hand at the school.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Franklin police remind golf cart owners it is illegal to drive the vehicles on the public roadways.

Franklin marching band wins $10,000 prize
Members of the Franklin High School Marching Band got a big surprise March 5 when they received a $10,000 prize and a performance from the country music duo Thompson Square.
The students had been told they won $5,000 in a contest sponsored by Cricket Wireless Communications and 102.5 The Game, but it wasn't until Monday's check presentation that they learned that number had been doubled to $10,000.
As part of the contest, high school bands were asked to submit audio of their performances. The Top 10 were posted on the radio station's website for people to vote for their favorite. Franklin High won the contest by garnering the most votes.
| The Grammy-nominated band Thompson Square helped sweeten the deal for students as they performed a few of their songs including I Got You, Glass and Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not. After their performance, the group posed for pictures with students and signed autographs. Officials say the money will be used to purchase equipment and to help with travel costs for students who want to compete in national events. |

Restaurant owners back ProStart at Franklin High
A group of local restaurant owners are joining forces to support culinary arts education at Franklin High School. The local restaurateurs recently presented the school with a check for $3,000. The money will support students as they pursue their dreams of a career in the restaurant and food service industry through the ProStart program.
Franklin High will join only a handful of high schools across the state in the ProStart program, which emphasizes culinary techniques and management skills as a way of providing real world educational opportunities. ProStart is managed through the Tennessee Hospitality Education Foundation.
Andy Marshall, owner of Puckett's Grocery and Restaurant; Tom Loventhal, owner of Noshville Delicatessan; Jason McConnell, owner of the Red Pony, 5 South and Sol; and the Nashville Originals each pledged $750 to the school.
"We are so grateful for this generous support of our ProStart program," said WCS Career and Technical Education Coordinator Jackie Baggett. "It's local community leaders like these that make engaged education a reality."
