Passport to the World series visits France Sunday
Sister Cities of Franklin and Williamson County begins its second year of the highly successful Passport to the World series by traveling to France, with Amelie de Gaulle, from the French Consular Agency in Nashville as our guide Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Williamson County Public Library main branch.
The discussion will begin with a short history of Paris, a lesson on French wines and a taste of French cheeses with an expert from the Whole Foods cheese counter.
The Passport to the World series walks you through the doorways of the world into the seven continents to experience the art, music, food, lifestyle, landscape, and heritage of our international neighbors without leaving the Williamson County Library.
Passport to the World is presented by Sister Cities of Franklin and Williamson County and co-sponsored by the Williamson County Public Library and the Townsend Institute for Global Competency at O'More College of Design.

Passport to the World Series features Turkey
“We don’t have a large Turkish presence here in Middle Tennessee, and we want to share our culture with the community,” Bulut said. “Turkey is part European, part Middle Eastern, part Asian – a democratic nation known for hospitality and kindness that is very important to the region, both geographically and politically.”
Bulut, along with a number of other Turkish natives – many of whom are professors at local universities – will discuss the history and culture of Turkey and its people. Photographs and other materials will help illustrate the presentation, and the signature baklava dessert will be served.
“Passport to the World” provides an authentic and personal look into the splendor of nations around the globe. The bi-monthly series takes a walk across the seven continents to experience the art, music, food, lifestyle, landscape, and heritage of our international neighbors as presented through performance, presentation and display, allowing the audience to explore the world without leaving home.
“This series is designed to assist our community in becoming globally competent and passionate citizens of the world,” said Dr. Mark Hilliard, president of O’More College of Design and Sister Cities Board member. “With each year that passes, more and more of our local economy will include global ties. An understanding of this global economy as well as global politics, global education, global religion, global conflict, and global art and design are imperative to the total preparation process of making American students and businesses marketable internationally.”
The “Passport to the World” lecture series is presented by Sister Cities of Franklin and Williamson County and co-sponsored by the Williamson County Public Library and the Townsend Institute for Global Competency at O’More College of Design. In the last year the series has taken visitors to Japan, Canada, Scotland and Germany.
