Mighty Tikes Triathlon set for June 2

Calling all pint-sized athletes, ages 3 to 7! You can run, bike and get wet in your very own Mighty Tikes Triathlon on Saturday, June 2! Register now for this fun family event presented by the Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. Check-in time is 7:30 a.m. with a race time of 8 a.m.

The crowd will cheer on their favorite pint-sized athletes as they peddle through a bicycle obstacle course, transition to a running portion and then dash through sprinklers on their way to the finish line. Each child will receive an official triathlon medal and t-shirt. Children must be accompanied by parents, and all racers are required to bring a tricycle or bicycle (maximum bike size 16”) and helmet to the event. Bring your cameras for award-winning photo opportunities!

Pre-registration is required and will end May 25 or when the event is full. Registration may be made in person or by speaking with the receptionist at (615) 790-5719, ext. 10. The entry fee is $8 per child, and payment must be made within five days of registering or by May 25. Space is limited for this event and reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

BOWLING

Therapeutic recreation participants are invited to join Williamson County Parks and Recreation for drop-in bowling on Tuesday April 10 and 17 at 3 p.m. at the Franklin Family Entertainment Center, 1200 Lakeview Dr. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. Games are $3, paid to the bowling center, and the fee includes shoes. No registration is needed. FITNESS FUN

Challenge yourself to an invigorating, weekly workout! Teens and older are invited to join in easy-to-follow exercises designed to increase strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness. Participants must be independent in their personal care and able to follow directions in a group. The program is offered on Wednesdays, April 11-25, from 4:00 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. Fitness Fun is $9 for the three-week session (no refunds for missed sessions). Registration is required March 15-April 3. This is a therapeutic recreation program offered at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. To register, call (615) 790-5719, ext. 10.

pOTLUCK AND BINGO

Young adults are invited to meet on Thursday, April 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for a potluck and bingo games at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. This is a therapeutic recreation program, and participants are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share. Meat and drinks will be provided. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. This event is free. Caregivers planning to attend are asked to register as well. Registration is required by April 10. To register, call (615) 790-5719, ext. 10.

SUPER SATURDAY RESPITE

Individuals with disabilities (ages 6 to 23) are invited to enjoy games, crafts, music, swimming and more! Participants should dress to swim and bring a towel, change of clothes, sack lunch, snack and a beverage for a day of fun! Personal care is provided. Respite is held on Saturday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road and costs $20 per person. This event is for Williamson County residents only. Registration begins at 9 a.m. on March 26 and ends April 2, or when the program is full. You may register in person or by phone at (615) 790-5719, ext. 10. Leaving a message is not registering. Space is limited! Payment is required within five days of registration. (Note: Check-in for this event is 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Due to space constraints, if a registrant is not checked in by 10:30 a.m. the registrant’s slot will be given to the next person on the waiting list.) GAMES GALORE-TENNIS and more

Young adults are invited to meet on Thursday, April 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to enjoy an evening of games, including tennis and cornhole. RECREATION NIGHT-80s DANCE PARTY

Young adults are invited to celebrate the 1980s at the Big Hair Dance Party, Thursday, April 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex. A DJ will provide the music, and a pizza dinner will be served. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. Caregivers planning to attend are asked to register as well. Recreation Night is $8 and registration is required April 2-24. Space is limited. Variety of senior programs at Franklin Rec

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department invites all area seniors to participate in a wide variety of ongoing programs at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road.

Senior programs are designed for residents age 55 and older (unless otherwise noted). Aquamotion - Arthritic/Post Rehab Water Class

Is the pain of everyday living getting you down? Then join Heather Atkinson’s “Aquamotion” on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:15 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. This class provides an opportunity for people with arthritis and post-rehab conditions to improve flexibility, coordination and muscle strength. No registration required. Please pay at the front desk before class! The fee is $2 for participants ages 55 and older and $3 for ages 54 and younger.

Power Tools

Nancy Rieves, a certified personal trainer, leads this group fitness class designed to increase strength and flexibility for independent living. Power Tools is for ages 55 and older, and no registration is required! Classes are held on ongoing Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, (skip 4/4) from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. The fee is $3 per class paid at the front desk. Wear comfortable clothes!

BOWLING

Seniors are invited to join Williamson County Parks and Recreation for drop-in bowling on Tuesday, April 3 and 10 at 9:30 a.m. at the Franklin Entertainment Center, 1200 Lakeview Dr. Enjoy bowling with friends without the obligation of a league. WCPR announces summer art, music camps

Williamson County Parks and Recreation announces their summer season of exciting, fun and educational art and music camps for ages 3 and older at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road.

From preschoolers to adults, a wide variety of sessions will be offered where students will have the opportunity to paint, draw, decorate cakes, learn about great artists, pretend to be pirates, go on a safari and more. Summer camp sessions are two to five days each (depending on the camp) and are offered on weekdays May 29 through August 2. Registration is required for all camps and is now underway.

ABRAKADOODLE’S ZOO DOODLE

We'll make safari art with paints, modeling compounds and wild animal print paper. During camp, we'll keep a jungle journal to take notes and create pictures of your adventure. We will play games, listen and sing along to music, plus tell animal stories while on the exploration! Kampers will need to bring a snack and drink each day.

The Easter Bunny is coming to town! Join the Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department at one of our Brunch with the Bunny events on Saturday, March 24 at the Fairview Recreation Complex, 2714 Fairview Boulevard, Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road, or the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Drive.

Families with children age 10 and younger will enjoy a delicious brunch, then each child will have a personal visit with the Easter Bunny. Parents are required to attend with children. Events will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:0 a.m., and the cost is $6 per child. Space is limited for each event. Reserve a spot today for your child to enjoy this extra special event! Reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until full. Registration is underway! Payment must be made within 5 days of registration in order to secure your spot.

Parks, Recreation senior programs varied

 

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department invites all area seniors to participate in a wide variety of ongoing programs at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road.

Senior programs are designed for residents age 55 and older (unless otherwise noted). Williamson County Parks and Recreation is a public organization, here to benefit the community. Anyone may register for and participate in the department’s programs, teams, classes and events. Some programs require pre-registration.

Aquamotion - Arthritic/Post Rehab Water Class

Is the pain of everyday living getting you down? Then join Heather Atkinson’s “Aquamotion” on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:15 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. This class provides an opportunity for people with arthritis and post-rehab conditions to improve flexibility, coordination and muscle strength. No registration required. Please pay at the front desk before class! The fee is $2 for participants ages 55 and older and $3 for ages 54 and younger.

Power Tools

Nancy Rieves, a certified personal trainer, leads this group fitness class designed to increase strength and flexibility for independent living. Power Tools is for ages 55 and older, and no registration is required! Classes are held on ongoing Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, (skip 3/7) from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. The fee is $3 per class paid at the front desk. Wear comfortable clothes!

BOWLING

Seniors are invited to join Williamson County Parks and Recreation for drop-in bowling on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. at the Franklin Entertainment Center, 1200 Lakeview Dr. Enjoy bowling with friends without the obligation of a league. Games are $1, paid to the bowling center, and the fee includes shoes. For more information, contact Mary Clark at (615) 790-5719, ext. 25.

Potluck and BINGO

Seniors are invited to monthly potluck and bingo on Monday, March 26, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. Meat and drinks will be provided, and participants are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. Registration is required February 27-March 25. Call (615) 790-5719, ext. 10. Please note: due to potluck preparations, doors will open at 11:30 a.m. There is no charge for this event!

'Arts Sparks' at free open house March 10

Feeling creative? Try kick starting your creative side at a free “Art Sparks” event on Saturday, March 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.

Drop in at this annual event and try drawing, cake decorating, scrapbooking and more. Our talented instructors will be on hand with plenty of free “make it, take-it” projects to choose from, plus demonstrations of acrylic, coffee and oil painting techniques.

Bring the kids for special children’s activities including face painting. Take a stroll through our art gallery display, featuring art by our students and instructors, including children’s art programs. Register for door prizes and cast your vote for the people’s choice awards.

Admission to Art Sparks is absolutely free. Girls, bring your dad, step-dad, uncle, grandpa or other special guy to the “Daddy’s Little Princess Ball,” a magical evening on Saturday, February 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department’s Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.

A DJ will be on hand to play your favorite songs, plus there will be games. Each couple will be introduced and receive a complimentary photograph as a memento of the evening. Each girl will receive a tiara, and refreshments of cookies and punch will be served. The dance is sponsored by Walgreens.

Registration is required for the dance. The cost is $15 per couple and $5 for each additional girl. Girls must be 4 to 12 years old. Payment must be made within 5 days of registration. To register, call the Franklin Recreation Complex, (615) 790-5719, ext. 10.

Family Night Sock Hop set for Jan. 20

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department invites families to dance the night away at the family Sock Hop on Friday, January 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. Break out your bobby socks and poodle skirts and come in costume for a night of family fun.

Family night is $6 per person (2 and younger free) and includes a delicious pizza dinner, drink, dessert and DJ entertainment. Space is limited, so make your reservations early.
