Storkables

Franklin Tn - Hello, and welcome to the very first blog from Storkables!! The concept for Storkables was inspired by the delivery of my granddaughter, Sophia Grace, on March 1st, 2011. What follows is a little history for your reading pleasure. When I first learned of my son and daughter-in-law's pregnancy, the first thing I wanted to do was to make my son feel as involved as a father could be in the pregnancy. So I went to the book store and found a few books for the future mommy and daddy. When it came time for the baby shower, I thought about what I could do for my son to make him feel as special as my daughter-in-law did. What I came up with, although I didn't know it at the time, would become the beginning of what is now Storkables. [Im the Daddy Green Scrub Top] To the right is the scrub top I had printed for him to wear in the delivery room and beyond! The idea was that everyone knows who the mommy and baby are, and now, everyone would know how proud he was to be the daddy.

As I was sitting in the waiting room waiting for other family members, I noticed a young woman who sat down across from me. She was completely alone, and I remember thinking how sad it was that she had no family with her. After a long and somewhat scary delivery, healthy and happy Sophia Grace was born, and the lives of our family were changed forever. At the time of her delivery, she was surrounded by so much family. She has been a Godsend, as are all babies who come into this world. When I went back to the delivery room to see and hold my new granddaughter, my son told me how excited his OB/GYN was about the scrub top he was wearing and wanted to know where he got it. As I was standing there in awe of this new little miracle God had sent to us, the doctor came in. We were introduced, and she reiterated her excitement about the scrub top and told me I should market them! It was a sweet thought, but it wouldn't sink in until a couple of weeks later.

Over the next few weeks, everyone who saw the photo of the scrub top loved the idea. So I thought I would try a little local marketing to see what interest I could gather. Upon calling and meeting with a few Lamaze instructors, the feedback was very positive, and I was on my way! What transpired from this point forward was truly amazing!! I thought, why limit the concept to scrubs, and why limit it to just daddy? After all, the delivery experience should be a family experience, right? And so began the "family delivery" concept for the business model. But what about a name for the business? Well, I did my research and came up with the name Storkables, because storks are associated with babies, and the babies are adorable. Get it? :)

From that point forward, everyone I talked to was excited about the concept, and I have met some wonderful people who have helped me get the business off the ground. I want to take this opportunity to thank them here, as I wouldn't have been able to do any of this without their help. I'd first like to thank Cindy Cullen. She's the person responsible for my being able to blog about Storkables. She has done an amazing job of getting Storkables online and geared up to market its products. Next, I'd like to thank Ken and Evelyn McGaha at Embroidme. They have been so supportive, and have done so much to help promote Storkables. They have done an excellent job on my print and embroidery work. Thanks go out to Janice Johnson at Trinkets for handing out business cards to so many of her customers. I am truly blessed to have these people in my life.

And last, but certainly not least, I want to thank my family. It is because of them that I am inspired to dream big. My daughter, Lauren, designed the logo for Storkables. My son, Ali, helped me with my first vendor event a few weeks ago, and he has been so supportive in this endeavor. My daughter-in-law, Cass, has given me wonderful feedback and, of course, the greatest gift ever...little Sophia Grace. A special thanks goes out to my dad, who is my mentor, my lifeline, and my hero. It is because of him that I know what love of a family truly is.

In the coming weeks, Storkables will be marketing like crazy and adding new items to the Web site. Here are the products we offer currently, and everything is customizable!
